Bookings & Flight Arrangements

Some important information to keep in mind when planning your trip:

  • The Chatham Islands are 45 minutes ahead of mainland New Zealand time
  • Cell phone coverage is not available anywhere on the Chatham Islands
  • There is no public transport provision
  • It is possible to bring your own food and beverages from mainland New Zealand to the Chatham Islands, as there are no food/alcohol quarantine/customs restrictions.  (However, take into account airline weight restrictions for baggage.)

Flights with Air Chathams 

Air Chathams is the only airline company providing domestic flights to the Chatham Islands.  Flights depart/arrive from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch on different days of the week - the schedule and fare rates can be viewed on their website

Air Chathams offer a fixed group rate fare for groups of 8 or more people travelling together.

Bookings can be made online or by phoning +64 (0)3 3050209.  We can also assist you with making flight bookings on your behalf if required.

In some instances we may be able to offer a lower fare rate than what is available direct with the airline so chat to us about this prior to booking if you wish.  (All flights booked on your behalf remain subject to Air Chathams policies and conditions, as outlined on their website.)

Check in for flights at Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch airports is at the Air Chathams counter. .

Baggage Allowance

A baggage allowance of 23kg per passenger is permitted, plus one carry on item weighing up to 5kg.  Passengers travelling together may combine their baggage entitlement as long as no individual item weighs more than 32kg. 

Excess baggage over this allowance may be carried if space and load capacity permit.  Any excess baggage charges must be paid when you check in at the airport - only cash payment is accepted.

Booking Policy and Payment

By confirming your booking with us you acknowledge and agree to the terms and conditions of our booking and cancellation policy, outlined below.


On confirmation of booking, a non-refundable 20% deposit of the accommodation portion of the total booking cost is required.  Please make payment within 7 days of invoice date, or we will not be able to hold your booking.  

At least 28 days prior to the first date of the booking, 50% of the accommodation portion of the total booking cost is required.

The balance of payment for any unpaid services must be made prior to departure from the Chatham Hideaway.

Payment methods accepted:

  • Bank account deposit
  • Bank cheque
  • Cash – only for balance of outstanding payment and activities after arrival 


For cancellations earlier than 28 days prior to the intended date of arrival, no charge will apply.  For cancellations between 28 and 7 days prior to the intended date of arrival, that we are unable to replace, we reserve the right to charge 50% of the total booking cost. For bookings cancelled within 7 days prior to the intended date of arrival, a 100% charge of the total booking cost will apply.
